It started with a rewrite that shouldn't have been necessary.
We kept getting called in to fix the same failure. A product that worked beautifully at ten users, then started losing data at ten thousand. Nobody involved had been careless. The guarantees were simply never chosen. They were assumed, and assumptions do not survive load.
Synops exists to invert that order. We decide what a system must never do before we decide what it should do. Ordering, consistency, durability, privacy: those get settled first. The product is then built inside the constraints they create.
